State of Alabama: Enacted Budget Cuts
“Facing our budget shortfalls, we must make the most efficient use of the funds on hand. There will be cuts, and many will be painful. But the people we serve expect us to make these tough decisions – and we will.”
- Gov. Bob Riley Address to Alabama Legislature Sept. 15,2003
Gov. Riley followed
through on that
commitment and gave
the people of
Alabama a government
that is smaller and
more efficient. One
that operates with
the resources at
hand. One that
eliminated
pass-through pork
and funding for
non-government
agencies.
Although our budget
crisis presents an
ongoing challenge,
it is also an
historic opportunity
to build a more cost
effective and
efficient government
for our state. If
you have ideas on
how to make
Alabama’s government
better, you can
share them with Gov.
Riley by sending him
an e-mail at
governorbobriley@governor.state.al.us.
